This 15-hour course is designed for teachers who have completed Suzuki Violin Unit 1 training and are ready to deepen their understanding of the Suzuki method. Participants will focus on Book 2 repertoire, including technical and musical development, tone production, and fostering strong foundational skills in students.

Through class discussions, lesson analysis, and hands-on activities, teachers will:

• Explore teaching points for each piece in Suzuki Violin Book 2.
• Refine their ability to analyze and address common technical challenges.
• Learn to nurture student musicianship, including phrasing, tone quality, and technique.
• Discuss strategies for parent-teacher-student collaboration and fostering a positive learning environment.

Course Requirements

• Participants must have completed Suzuki Violin Unit 1 and be active members of the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA).
• Each participant should bring their own violin, a copy of Suzuki Violin Book 2 and the accompanying recording.
• 100% attendance is required to receive credit for the course.

Teaching Strategies is a 10-hour course designed to help teacher participants become more effective in their teaching. The course reinforces strengths while providing constructive feedback on each participant’s lessons.

This course is now a prerequisite for Suzuki Book 3 and will be offered immediately following the Suzuki Book 2 training at the Omaha Suzuki Institute. Participants may register for both classes or choose to take either one individually, depending on their training needs. Participation is limited to 10 participants.

Course Requirements

Each participant should bring two video recordings of lessons, each 6–10 minutes long. At least one recording must feature an individual lesson. Longer lesson clips may also be included if needed.

For participants who are not currently teaching individual lessons, alternative arrangements can be made. Please contact the trainer to discuss options, such as teaching a student from the trainer’s studio, another teacher’s studio, or working with an Institute student.

• Current SAA Membership
• Completion of Every Child Can, Unit 1, and Unit 2 in that order
