Conservatory students place in ‘Youth Composes’ compeition
Vesper Concerts announced the winners of its 2016-17 Youth Composes composition competition during our holiday break, so we wanted to extend some belated congratulations to Omaha Conservatory of Music students Luke Steiner and Dmitri Shaposhnikov for winning first- and second-place in the middle school division, respectively.
Luke earned first place for “Ocean Music for Unaccompanied Violin.” Dmitri placed second for “River Under the Falling Rain for Piano.” Both study with Conservatory artist-faculty member Dr. Stacey Barelos.
These and other winners were listed on the Vesper Concerts website.
Students in each of the three age groups (middle school, high school and undergraduate) were required to submit any number of original works 3-5 minutes in length in the primary solo instrument of the entrant, or in any of the following ensemble formats: string quartet, brass quartet or quintet, piano trio, vocal ensemble or solo, or woodwind quintet.
Vesper Concerts is planning a public concert featuring the works of these and other winners at 7pm, Monday, Feb. 20 at 1517 S. 114th St.
